AI Website Edits: How to Keep Your Wix Site Consistent and SEO-Friendly

As a business owner, you know your services and products better than anyone. But when it comes to writing, most of our clients admit it’s not their favorite part of running a business. That’s why tools like built-in AI editors on Wix and WordPress feel so tempting: highlight a paragraph, click a button, and suddenly the words sound “better.”

The problem? If you only edit piece by piece, you can end up with a patchwork website where every section has a slightly different voice. What’s worse, you might accidentally overwrite something important for SEO or accessibility. (We’ve written before about how DIY updates can accidentally hurt your SEO.)
The good news is you can make small AI website edits safely, if you follow a clear roadmap.
Step 0: Know What’s Safe (and What’s Not)
Your website’s text isn’t just words. It’s part of a carefully built system.
Changing the wrong parts can interfere with your visibility on Google or create a poor experience for visitors.
✅ Safe to Edit
Body text (small clarifications, grammar fixes, or adding a detail)
Service descriptions (as long as you keep the structure intact)
Contact info, but with a big caveat (see below)
⚠️ Handle With Caution
Calls-to-Action (e.g., “Book Now” “Get a Free Quote”)
Button text (AI loves to swap clear words with vague ones like “Learn More”)
🚫 Do NOT Touch
Headlines & subheadings (H1, H2 tags)
Page titles or meta descriptions
Image alt text
Internal links
Step 1: Work in Plain Text First
When you copy and paste directly from Word, Google Docs, or even AI tools, you might also drag along hidden code. This can mess with fonts, spacing, and accessibility.
Solution:
Use a plain text editor (WordPad, Notepad, or TextEdit) to remove all formatting and hidden code.
Or paste with “Paste as Plain Text” (Shift + Ctrl + V on Windows, Shift + Option + Command + V on Mac).
Manually add formatting back into your content.
Step 2: Use AI for Whole Sections, Not Snippets
Highlighting one paragraph at a time is the fastest way to create that patchwork effect in your AI website edits.
Instead:
Copy the entire section into AI.
Ask it to rewrite for clarity or flow.
Paste the revised section back into Wix or WordPress.
This way, the tone stays consistent from start to finish.
Step 3: Check for Consistency (with Examples)
Here’s a simple checklist you can use before hitting publish:
Tone: Does this page sound casual, formal, or friendly? Is it consistent throughout?
Vocabulary: Did AI replace your everyday words with “fancier” ones that don’t feel like you?
Length & flow: Are some parts overly wordy compared to others?
Pro tip: Read the page out loud. If it sounds like it was written by three different people, tweak until it feels like one smooth conversation with your customer.
Examples:
A. The Overly Fancy Rewrite
Original: “We’ll help you pick the right option for your needs.”
AI version: “We specialize in curating bespoke solutions tailored to your unique requirements.”
Better: “We’ll help you choose the best option for your needs.”
B. The Cliché Trap
Original: “We take pride in our work.”
AI version: “We go above and beyond to exceed your expectations every step of the way.”
Better: “We take pride in delivering quality work you can count on.”
C. The Tone Mismatch
Original: “Call us today and let’s get started.”
AI version: “Do not hesitate to reach out to our dedicated representatives at your earliest convenience.”
Better: “Call us today and we’ll get started together.”
These examples show why you should treat AI output as a draft, not the final word. The best version usually stays close to your natural voice, just a little cleaner and clearer.
Step 4: Special Note on Business Info
If you’ve relocated or changed your phone number, do not just update your site and move on. Why?
SEO impact: Google matches your website info with your Google Business Profile. If they don’t match, your ranking can drop.
Accessibility: Screen readers and mobile maps rely on consistent address formatting to guide users.

The Bottom Line
DIY website edits can be helpful, but only if you know where to step in and where to step back. Use AI for efficiency, but don’t let it create a patchwork of voices. And when in doubt, especially with SEO-sensitive areas, send it our way.
Your website is a conversation with your customers. With the right guardrails, small AI website edits will keep that conversation clear, consistent, and true to your business. (And remember, AI can hurt your organic SEO if used the wrong way.)
Not sure if your edits are helping or hurting? Let's make sure your site speaks with one clear voice and your SEO stays strong.
